Liu Xia (badminton)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Liu Xia ( Chinese  刘霞 , W.-G. Liu Hsia , * 1955 ) is a former badminton player from the People's Republic of China . She is not identical to the wife of the same name of the Chinese dissident and Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo .

Career

At the beginning of Liu Xia's career there was still a strict separation between the China-related world association WBF and the much larger association IBF, so that Liu Xia could only rarely compete with the sizes of the other association. In 1978, the greatest success of her career, she won silver at the Asian Games in women's singles. At the World Championship of the Association WBF in 1979 she was in the final of the doubles with Zhang Ailing and lost there against Sirisriro Patama and Suleeporn Jittariyakul with 10:15 and 11:15. At the All England 1982 she was able to advance to the semi-finals in doubles with Zhang Ailing , but lost there against Verawaty Wiharjo and Ruth Damayanti from Indonesia with 6:15 and 13:15.
