Liud- is a word component in various personal names .

Origin and meaning

Personal names with Liud- were mentioned since the 6th century ( Liudger ) and appeared more often since the 9th century (Liudolf> Liudolfinger). Such personal names were also used in Slavic-speaking countries in the 9th century ( Ludmilla of Bohemia , Ljudevit of Pannonia ).

The syllable was possibly derived from Old High German liud people, crowd, people . The names were like other two-part Germanic personal names, e.g. B. Theoderich, Siegfried, ... formed.
