Liudas Noreika

Liudas Noreika (born August 17, 1884 in Pasruojė , Žemaičių Kalvarija , Telšiai district , † May 30, 1928 in Kaunas ) was a Lithuanian lawyer , politician and journalist.

Life

In 1905 Noreika graduated from the Kaunas seminary and in 1908 the Saint Petersburg spiritual seminary . In 1917 he finished his law studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Saint Petersburg .

In 1918 he was co-opted to the State Council ( Lietuvos Taryba ). He was Minister of Justice from 1919 to June 1920 and then worked as a lawyer . He was also politically active for the Lietuvių tautininkų sąjunga party .

From 1907 he worked in the press , initially as a correspondent for "Viltis". In 1914 he became deputy editor of the journal "Vairas", from 1915 to 1917 he was editor of "Lietuvių balsas", from 1916 to 1918 editor of "Ateities spinduliai". In 1922 he was one of the founders of the Catholic Academy of Sciences and its first treasurer.
