Ludier
The Lüdier (Karelian lyydilaažed , Finnish lyydiläiset , Russian лю́дики , каре́лы-лю́дики ) are a Finno-Ugric ethnic group of the Baltic Finnish group, who are mostly regarded as a subgroup of the Karelians . They live north and east of Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia in northwestern Russia . In the 2010 census, around 3,000 people identified themselves as Lüdier.
The Jewish language belongs to the Karelian language group . It is related to the Olonetz language and developed under the strong influence of Wepsi . It is also sometimes viewed as a separate language, especially by Finnish linguists.
history
The Lüdier are mentioned as early as the 9th century in a list by the Bavarian geographer . 921/922 the Arab traveler said Ahmad ibn Fadlan the tribe of Luud-Aana .
