KK Livedoor ( Japanese 株式会社 ラ イ ブ ド ア , Kabushiki kaisha Raibudoa , English livedoor Co., Ltd. ) is a Japanese Internet company based in Nishi-Shinjuku , Tokyo Prefecture , which has been a 100% subsidiary of Naver Corporation since April 2010 .

The company was run by its founder, Takafumi Horie , for the first ten years . With more than 1000 employees, it is one of the leading Japanese Internet companies. But it is notorious for its frequent mergers with other companies until it stumbled upon a fraud scandal and was bought out by the Korean Naver Corporation .

Livedoor was founded in 1995 as Livin 'on the Edge and run by Horie and a few fellow students. In 1996, an operating company, YK On the Edge ( 有限会社 オ ン ・ ザ ・ エ ッ ヂ , Yūgen-gaisha On za Ejji , English Livin 'On the EDGE Inc. ), based in Minato, was founded . In 1997 it was renamed KK On the Edge (( 株式会社 オ ン ・ ザ ・ エ ッ ヂ , Kabushiki-gaisha On za Ejji , English Livin 'On the EDGE Co., Ltd. ) and was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2000. In November 2002 She took over the bankrupt old KK Livedoor and then changed her own name to Edge KK ( エ ッ ジ 株式会社 , Ejji Kabushiki-gaisha ) Edge Co., Ltd. ) in 2003 , finally adopting Livedoor as the new name in 2004.

From then on the company was called KK Livedoor .
