License hunting system

The licensed hunting system or patent hunting system exists where the state has the right to hunt and anyone can acquire a hunting license or a patent for a certain hunting area and / or a certain game species . It is widespread in the Latin and Alpine Swiss cantons , the USA and Canada . In Germany and in the cantons of northern Switzerland there is a hunting district system .

Patent hunting in Switzerland

The patent hunt allows hunting in the entire territory of the canton, with the exception of the federal and cantonal hunting areas . The hunters have to acquire a patent from the canton and pay the patent fee. A certain number of animals may be shot per patent. The hunting season is limited to a few weeks in autumn.

Patent cantons are Bern, Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Nidwalden, Glarus, Zug, Freiburg, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Graubünden, Ticino, Vaud, Wallis, Neuchâtel and Jura.
