The Ljubostinja Monastery ( Serbian - Cyrillic Манастир Љубостиња ) is a Serbian Orthodox monastery near Trstenik and Vrnjačka Banja in Serbia . It belongs to the group of churches in the Serbian-Byzantine style of the Morava school .

Ljubostinja means "the love of life in the desert".

history

The monastery was founded in 1388 by Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović shortly before the battle on the Blackbird Field . According to legend, he founded the monastery on the spot where he first met Princess Milica Hrebeljanović .

During the battle the prince was killed and Milica entered the Ljubostinja monastery as a nun with the widows of the killed soldiers. She spent the last years of her life in the monastery where her grave is located.

The first female poet in Serbia, Jefimija (Jelena), companion of Milica, died there in 1405. She completed the praise of Prince Lazar there in 1402 .
