Princess Milica Hrebeljanović ( Cyrillic . Милица Хребељановић, née Nemanjić ; * around 1335; † November 11, 1405 ) also known as Empress Carica Milica , was regent of Serbia , wife of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović (1329–1389) and mother Stefan Lazar despots . She was the daughter of Prince Vratko (кнез Вратко), a great-grandson of Vukan Nemanjić and thus came from a side branch of the Nemanjiden . She was once the fourth cousin at the court of Stefan Uroš IV. Dušan . After the battle on the Amselfeld , she took over the affairs of government for the underage Stefan until 1393. She then moved with Jefimija to the Ljubostinja monastery founded by her, first taking the monastery name Jevgenija (Јевгенија), and later as abbess the name Jefrosina (Јефросина). She is a saint of the Serbian Orthodox Church .

Milica had eight children including:

Mara was with Vuk Brankovic , Jelena with Đurađ II. Balšić , Dragana with the Bulgarian Tsar Ivan Shishman , and the youngest daughter Olivera with the Turkish Sultan Bajazet I. married.
