Economy and Infrastructure

This place is at the crossroads of important land and rail connections to the South African Republic . Lobatse is home to an important branch of the Geological Service of Botswana, which deals with geology and hydrogeology . The country’s judicial administration and the Supreme Court and Appeal Court of Botswana are based in Lobatse .

Lobatse has the largest slaughterhouse in southern Africa and exports meat to neighboring countries as well as the European Union , with which there is a trade agreement.

A subsidiary company affiliated with the slaughterhouse tanned the animal skins and there was a very profitable business with leather of all kinds until 1995 and 1996. This company had to cease operations because environmental protection regulations were not observed. The problem was the lack of purification of the sewage .

Town twinning

Since October 24, 2011 there has been a community partnership with Walvis Bay , Namibia . Both cities are connected by the Trans-Kalahari Corridor . NamibiaNamibia
