Life

The musician first became known in his home country for his psychedelic guitar style. His singing was of "flat, strangely penetrating tone, somewhere between rap and blues," as The Economist noted. He achieved greater international fame, initially only slowly growing, with his second album Bamako , produced by Ali Farka Touré , which was released in 1994. It was voted one of the best rock albums of the year in Liberation and one of the best world music albums in Le Monde .
