Loch Muchairt is a lake on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay . It is located in the south of the island on the northern border of the Oa peninsula about one kilometer southeast of the village of Kintra . The lake is a maximum of 490 m long and 100 m wide and extends in an east-west direction. At the western end of Loch Muchairt, a small stream flows off, which after a short run in a north-westerly direction flows into Laggan Bay . A stream flowing off in the east connects at Cornabus with other streams to Cornabus Burn , which flows into the Atlantic Ocean east of the Ballivicar settlement . The south bank and parts of the east and west banks are surrounded by trees.
About 600 m north of Loch Muchairt is the Standing Stone Carragh Bhan , which is said to mark the grave site of Godred Crovans , King of the Kingdom of the Isles .
