The Lochmühle is on the county road between Bieber and Wiesen . There, was until 2006 Research Station for low mountain range of the Research Institute Senckenberg .

history

Spessart Railway Station

Originally the building was the reception building of the passenger station of the Spessartbahn from Gelnhausen , which ended here. From 1895 passenger traffic was carried out here. That is why a popular restaurant has developed here. The loading of ores was carried out at the Lochborn terminal station, 2 km away, until mining operations were stopped in 1925. Rail operations ended in 1951 due to inefficiency. From this time buses were used for passenger transport.

Research station for low mountain ranges of the Senckenberg Research Institute

The research station for low mountain ranges was founded as a branch in Lochmühle in the Hessian Spessart and dealt with biodiversity research in the Central European low mountain range. From 1996 the station was an independent organizational unit in the general association of the Senckenberg Research Institute. In addition to a few permanent employees of the permanent staff, the research station was dependent on employees who were paid from project funds. It was under the direction of Dieter Mollenhauer .

Johann Heinrich Cassebeer Society

The Johann Heinrich Cassebeer Society was a non-profit association for the promotion of regional geological research in the Spessart. It had its seat until 2006 in the Lochmühle and then, until the dissolution of the association, with the first chairman Peter Mollenhauer in Bieber . One of the goals of the company was to preserve, document and evaluate existing knowledge about the Spessart natural area .

Today you can find the coffee bean, which is open on Sunday afternoons , in the Haus am Lochborn .
