Dieter Mollenhauer

Dieter Mollenhauer (born December 29, 1937 in Berlin ; † May 3, 2013 ) was a German botanist and phycologist .

Act

Mollenhauer has made great contributions in the field of phycology ( algae research ). In the context of his taxonomic and ecological research he mainly dealt with cyanobacteria and desmidiaceae , but also algae with a special way of life (e.g. Gymnodinium aeruginosum) are among them. The work together with his wife Resi Mollenhauer on the endosymbiosis of Geosiphon pyriforme is considered groundbreaking. They were carried out in a DFG special research area, which they carried out together with Manfred Kluge ( TU Darmstadt) carried out. He was also involved in the formulation of the Frankfurt theory of evolution .

For the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research , he founded the then “ Lochmühle branch ” in 1969 , which he headed for more than 30 years; he also taught at the University of Frankfurt . In the course of his research life, Dieter Mollenhauer has submitted well over 200 publications.
