The Lockhart Beach Provincial Park is a 3  ha small provincial park in Canada's British Columbia . The park is located on the east bank of Kootenay Lake , 25 miles north of Creston on British Columbia Highway 3A , in the Regional District of Central Kootenay .

The park is one of the ten smallest and one of the ten oldest of the Provincial Parks in British Columbia .

The park is located on the east bank of Kootenay Lake and is crossed by Highway 3A, which divides the park in two. The eastern part of the park is traversed by Lockhart Creek, which also gives its name to the Lockhart Creek Provincial Park to the east .
The park is a category II protected area ( national park ).

history

As with almost all provincial parks in British Columbia, this one too was the hunting and fishing area of ​​various First Nations peoples long before the area was settled by European immigrants or part of a park . Archaeological evidence for this use has not yet been found.

The park was established on October 13, 1933 and its status was last legally confirmed in 2000.

Flora and fauna

Within the ecosystem of British Columbia, which is divided into different biogeoclimatic zones with the Biogeoclimatic Ecological Classification (BEC) Zoning System , the park is assigned to the Interior Cedar-Hemlock Zone . Biogeoclimatic zones are characterized by a fundamentally identical climate and the same or very similar biological and geological conditions. This results in a very similar population of plants and animals in the respective zones.

The park does not have a well-developed tourist infrastructure. However, in addition to a picnic area, the park has 18 parking spaces for campers and tents, as well as simple sanitary facilities.
