Lofn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lofn (from Old Norse lof "permission mildness") is the Norse mythology one Asen goddess.

Snorri Sturluson mentions them in his Prose Edda in Gylfaginning in Chapter 34. In addition to Snorri, the goddess appears in the Þulur , which Snorri knew and which he processed into his own mythical tale. Snorri falls back on the etymology ( lof "permission"), inspired by the paraphrases of the Kenningar : Lofn had received permission from Odin and Frigg to combine and marry loving men and women who were previously forbidden to do so.
