Loftus Perkins
Loftus Perkins (born May 8, 1834 in London , † April 27, 1891 in Kilburn ) was a British mechanical engineer and inventor in the field of heating and cooling technology.
Life
Loftus Perkins was born on Great Corham Street, Russell Square, London in 1834 to Angier March Perkins . He married Emily Patton (* 1838 in New York) in 1866. They had two sons: Loftus Patton Perkins (* 1868; † 1940) and Ludlow Patton Perkins (* 1873; † 1928). Loftus Perkins died in 1891 at 148, Abbey Road, Kilburn, London and was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery .

Of particular importance was his invention of the stopped-end steam tube, patented in 1865 , which made baking bread in bakeries much easier when used in the steam oven .
His other inventions included:
- Polly Perkins - a mobile steam oven for the British Army
- Steam tractors
- The Anthracite - a yacht (70 tons) with steam propulsion
- Express - a steamboat (50 m)
- Arktos - a cooling device for food (1888)
