Logie Schoolhouse

The Logie Schoolhouse is a former school building near the Scottish town of Montrose in the Council Area Angus . In 2006 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest monument category A.

history

Since there are two schools with the same name, it is unclear in the literature whether the school building was built in the late 17th or early 18th century. Either it is a school described in 1791, whose teachers had a house with a garden at their disposal and in which between 40 and 50 students were taught, or the school was described in 1845 as one of two non-financed schools in the region that were im early 19th century near the industrial mills had sprung up. It is interesting that the school building was used as the church of the United Free Church of Scotland from 1929 until the 1980s .

The Logie Schoolhouse is located in the hamlet of Logie about four kilometers northwest of Montrose near the right bank of the North Esk . It is one of the few remaining buildings in Scotland made of clay . Some walls have meanwhile been clad with stone or repaired with brick . The south-east exposed main facade of the one-story building is six axes wide. Essentially four-part muntin windows are installed. The school building closes with a slate hipped roof . On the street side, a porch made of corrugated iron was added, on the gable of which a wooden roof turret rests with bells.
