Lohrasp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lohrāsp , also Shah Luhrasp , was the eighth king of the heroic age. He comes from the mystical race of the Iranian Kayanids . His meaning as a Shah is abbreviated in Firdausi's Shāhnāme . Lohrāsp is the father of Goštāsp and the grandfather of Esfandiyārs .

Lohrāsp in Shahname - Legend XXVI

Lohrāsp was appointed his successor by Kai Chosrau . Lohrāsp's appointment was initially not without controversy and Zāl initially complained to Kai Chosrau that he was choosing someone who was largely unknown to them as his successor. Kai Chosrau explained his choice with the words:

“He is a grandson of Shah Huschang ,
is clean of hands and grade,
comes from Peschin and Keikobad
with a legal sense and wise advice.
He will wipe out the magic trail
And make God's way pure and pure.
The time will become young through him, He will
also be given an equal son.
The Eternal said to me: 'Choose this one!'
I only did it on his orders. "

With this verse, Firdausi gives an indication of the further importance of Lohrāsps for the religious reforms in Iran, which occur through the appearance of Zarathustra in the time of Lohrāsp. His son Goštāsp and later his grandson Esfandiyār will bring Zoroastrianism to its final breakthrough in Iran.

In the following Firdausi only briefly goes into the further work of Lohrāsp.

“There he had a city built
with alleys and streets and market alleys;
And he built a temple called Barzin
, which was bestowed with the highest splendor. "

Azar Barzin Mehr, located in the town of Sabzevar (formerly Beihagh), developed into one of the three most important fire temples during the Sassanid period . Archaeologists began excavating in 2007.
