Loitzsch is a locality in the district of Lichtenberg in the municipality of Kauern in the district of Greiz in Thuringia .

location

Loitzsch was located southeast of Kauern in what was later to be the mining area of Wismut AG .

history

Loitzsch was first mentioned in a document on November 10, 1380. Since 1554, the place belonged to Saxony as part of the Ziegenhierdsches Ländchen exclave . In 1928 the place came as part of an exchange of territory from Saxony to the state of Thuringia in the district of Gera . On April 1, 1939, Loitzsch was united with Lichtenberg to form the municipality of Lichtenberg. Lichtenberg was incorporated into Kauern on July 1, 1950. Lichtenberg fell victim to uranium mining in 1954 . Two properties from the place Lichtenberg have been preserved, which now form the new place Lichtenberg with the rest of the former village Loitzsch. In 2000, today's (remaining) town of Lichtenberg had 27 residents in eight houses with 10 households, 18 of whom lived in the former Loitzsch.
