Local posse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The local posse as a variant of the posse is a theater genre of the 19th century, in particular the old Viennese folk theater .

It has this name because its language and location are adapted to the location of the performance. Their characters speak the local dialect and there are allusions to local customs or geographical and architectural features. Many German local antics, however , have been translated from French and given local color only afterwards . Often a central funny person appears in the local posse . It is particularly popular around 1830. Examples are Der Zettelträger Papp (1827) by Johann Nestroy in Vienna or Friedrich Beckmann's corner-standing Nante in interrogation (1833) in Berlin.

The local posse differs from antics, the localization of which does not play a significant role, as is the case with many magic antics .
