Friedrich Beckmann (actor, 1803)
Friedrich Beckmann (born January 13, 1803 in Breslau , † September 7, 1866 in Vienna ) was a German comedian .
Life
Beckmann made theatrical experiments as a boy and demonstrated an excellent talent for the comic subject. Since 1820 chorus and then stage manager of the Breslau Theater, he was hired in 1824 on Heinrich Schmelka's recommendation for the newly built Königsstädtische Theater in Berlin .
Initially only employed in supporting roles, he later took on more important roles and soon became the darling of the public. The figure of the corner stand in Karl von Holteis A tragedy in Berlin prompted him to write the posse corner stand Nante in interrogation (46th edition, Berlin 1876), which was received with rapturous applause in all theaters in Germany , in which he played the title role. He contributed to a Berlin variant of the German-speaking farce, previously dominated by Vienna, and cemented the theater's reputation as a popular stage .
In 1838 he married the popular soubrette Adele Muzzarelli and in 1846 accepted an appointment at the Hofburgtheater in Vienna , where he was engaged for life. Here, too, he quickly made himself popular and rose from local comedian to character comedian. If he remained mostly the same in everything he played, he always displayed a natural comedy and a ravishing mood. He was comfortable and at the same time full of spirit and wit.
Friedrich Beckmann is buried in the Matzleinsdorf Evangelical Cemetery in Vienna (crypt center left, number 11). In 1894 Beckmanngasse in Vienna- Penzing (14th district) and Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus (15th district) was named after him.
