London Post Office Railway 1962 series

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1962 class of the London Post Office Railway was built by English Electric in 1962 . The series comprised two prototypes , which served as a design study for a possible subsequent delivery of new railcars . Some of the design aspects flowed later into the vehicles of the 1980 series one.

The first of the two cars was retired and scrapped in 1967 after only 5 years of service. The second lasted until 1980 and was later repaired using parts of the first. It was now number 66. In 2003 it was retired when the Post Office Railway was closed.
