The 1980 series of the London Post Office Railway was built between 1980 and 1982 at Hunslet in Leeds . Originally the vehicles of this series were ordered from Greenbat , which however went bankrupt after building only three units. The design incorporated some aspects that were tested in the 1962 series .

There were 43 railcars built, which mainly served to the series 1930/1936 to replace, but also some cars of the series were canceled 1930/1936. The cars were originally numbered 501-534, but were renumbered 1-34 in 1984 .

All cars were retired when the Post Office Railway was closed in 2003 .
