A classic long drink: the gin and tonic

A long drink is a variant of the cocktail with a relatively large volume (from 14 cl, mostly 20-25 cl, in exceptional cases up to a maximum of 30 cl).

Concept and components

By the term long drink but often meant a particularly simple variant of cocktails in the absence of a more appropriate name, consisting of a spirit (2 or 4 cl) and the filler (juice, soda), with which the highball glass or the tumbler (usually 0.2 to 0.3 liter volume) is refilled after adding ice and spirits. These simple long drinks are usually named after the combination of the mixed drinks, e.g. B. Vodka-Lemon ( vodka with bitter lemon ) or Whiskey Cola ( whiskey with Cola ). In some areas these drinks are also called "hat" or "hat".

Classic long drinks are, for example, the gin and tonic or the screwdriver .
