The Longfellow Mountains , named in 1959 after the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow , are a mountain range in the state of Maine that is interrupted at several points ; they run from west Maine, north of Fryeburg , to east Maine. They are part of the Appalachian Mountains and, geologically speaking, also part of the White Mountains . One of them is Mount Katahdin , Maine's highest mountain.
