Longomontanus is an old, heavily eroded moon crater in the southern highlands southwest of the well-known Tycho crater .
The crater has a diameter of about 160 km. Its inner surface is almost flat, but the crater edges are heavily eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Danish astronomer and mathematician Christian Severin (Latinized Longomontanus ).
