Coordinates: 23 ° 27 ′  S , 144 ° 15 ′  E The Longreach Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 40,572 km² and has about 3700 inhabitants.

geography

The region is located in the center of the state about 990 km northwest of the capital Brisbane .

The largest city and administrative seat of the LGA is Longreach with around 2700 inhabitants. The region includes the following districts and towns: Camoola, Chorregon, Emmet, Ernestina, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Longreach, Maneroo, Morella, Tocal, Vergemont and Yaraka.

history

Today's Longreach Region emerged in 2008 from the three Shires Longreach, Ilfracombe and Isisford.

administration

The Longreach Regional Council has seven members. Six councilors are elected by the residents of the six divisions (constituencies). The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the region.
