Lookout Mobile Security

Lookout is a company that specializes in the security of smartphones and tablets and offers mobile security solutions for Android and iOS . The San Francisco- based company has 20 million users on 400 cellular networks and in 170 countries worldwide.

history

As early as 2005, John Hering had pointed out the danger of being able to spy on cell phones and hacked numerous cell phones of celebrities at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles . In 2007, he and college friends Kevin Mahaffey and James Burgess founded Flexilis, a mobile security company that became Lookout in 2009.

Currently (2012) Lookout has more than 250 employees and 46 million users worldwide. John Hering, Founder and CEO of Lookout, was introduced by the American trade publication Venture Beat as one of the “10 Disruptive Individuals Reshaping the Mobile Industry”.

Investors and Partnerships

In several rounds of financing, Lookout raised $ 75 million from investors Accel Partners , Index Ventures , Khosla Ventures and Trilogy Equity Partners . The largest part contributed with 40 million dollars Netscape founder Andreesen Horowitz.

In April 2012, Lookout and Deutsche Telekom entered into a strategic partnership. Together they want to develop and sell applications for protecting mobile devices. As part of the cooperation, Telekom will also make the Lookout Mobile Security app available to its customers in Europe. The app has been pre-installed on all Telekom devices since December 2012.
