Khosla Ventures is an American venture capital company founded by Vinod Khosla focusing on early stage companies in the internet, computing, cellular, silicon technology, biotechnology, healthcare and clean technology sectors.

The firm is headquartered in Menlo Park , Calif. , And manages investor capital and previous funds funded by Khosla. As of September 2017, Khosla Ventures had approximately $ 5 billion in assets under management.

history

The company was founded in 2004 by Vinod Khosla, a former employee of the startup investment company Kleiner Perkins. The firm's first two investment vehicles were funded with Khosla's private capital and were not open to institutional investors . In March 2009, Pierre Lamond became a partner. In December 2009, Khosla completed fundraising for two new funds to invest in cleantech and information technology startups.

The Khosla Ventures Fund III secured $ 1 billion in investor money for investments in traditional early-stage and growth-stage companies. Khosla also raised $ 300 million for Khosla Seed, which invests in riskier businesses and science experimentation. The company has invested in bio-refineries for energy and bioplastics, solar, wind, battery, motors, LED, HVAC efficiency and other environmentally friendly technologies. The company focuses on risk-based technology investments in very large markets.
