Lord Maderty
Lord Maderty is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Scotland . The title is named after the place Madderty near Perth in Perth and Kinross .
Award and history of the title
The title was created for James Drummond on January 31, 1609 . He was the second son of David Drummond, 2nd Lord Drummond , of the Drummond clan .
At the death of his grandson, the 3rd Lord, in 1692 the title fell to his nephew, who in 1688 inherited the titles Viscount of Strathallan and Lord Drummond of Cromlix from his father in 1686 . Since then, the lord title has been subordinate to the viscount title.
The 4th Viscount, like his son, who later became the 5th Viscount, took part in the Jacobite revolt of 1745 . With a parliamentary resolution of April 18, 1746, both were outlawed ( Bill of Attainder ), on the condition that they would not surrender by July 12, 1746. This deadline came too late for the 4th Viscount, as he had already died on April 16, 1746 in the Battle of Culloden . His son fled to France after the battle and lost his titles and lands with effect from April 18, 1746.
His brother's younger son, James Drummond , finally obtained on June 17, 1824 that the titles of the Act of Parliament were restored to him as 6th Viscount of Strathallan and 8th Lord Maderty. In part, the legal act is also understood as a retroactive lifting of the ostracism and James Drummond is counted accordingly as the 8th Viscount and 10th Lord.
His great-grandson, the 9th Viscount, inherited the title of 6th Earl of Perth and 9th Lord Drummond (of Cargill) when his distant relative George Drummond, 5th Earl of Perth died in 1902 . The titles have since been subordinate to the Earldom of Perth. Today's title holder has been his great-nephew John Drummond, 9th Earl of Perth as 14th Lord Maderty , since 2002 .
