Earl of Loudoun
Earl of Loudoun (/ ˈlaʊdən /) is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Scotland .
Award, subordinate and other titles
The title was created on May 12, 1633 for John Campbell, 2nd Lord Campbell of Loudoun . Along with the earliest dignity, he was given the subordinate title of Lord Tarrinzean and Mauchline . As early as 1619 he had received the title of Lord Campbell of Loudoun , which was created on June 30, 1601 for the maternal grandfather of his wife Margaret Campbell. He had renounced the title in his favor.
All named titles belong to the Peerage of Scotland and, in the absence of male descendants, can also be inherited in the female line. The eldest son of the respective earl apparently bears the courtesy title of Lord Mauchline as his marriage .
The 6th Countess married the 2nd Earl of Moira , who was raised to Marquess of Hastings in 1816 . Their son George Rawdon-Hastings united their titles as 2nd Marquess of Hastings and 7th Earl of Loudoun when his parents died. When his youngest son, the 4th Marquess, died on November 10, 1868 without a male heir, the Marques title and its subordinate title expired with the exception of the Scottish titles Earl of Loudoun, Lord Campbell of Loudoun and Lord Tarrinzean and Mauchline, which belonged to his eldest sister when the 10th Countess of Loudoun fell.
The current title holder is Simon Abney-Hastings as 15th Earl.
