The Lorenz Bahlsen Snack-World GmbH & Co KG Germany ( Lorenz Snack-World , to 2001, Lorenz Bahlsen Snack Group ), established in 1999 companies in Neu-Isenburg , the snacks like potato chips (Crunchips) , stack of chips (crisps) , pretzel sticks ( Saltletts - formerly Salzletten ) and peanut products ( e.g. peanut curls ). It is named after its founder and owner Lorenz Bahlsen.

Company history

The company is based in the Hermann Bahlsen hierarchy, founded in 1889. In 1935 Hermann Bahlsen's son Klaus introduced the Salzletten as the first German brand of pretzel sticks. In order to strengthen the branch for savory snacks in parallel to the confectionery, the Bahlsen Group acquired the Flessner KG in Neu-Isenburg in 1964 ; This had the first machine production plant for potato chips in Europe and has been supplying the American troops stationed in the Federal Republic since the company was founded by Heinz Flessner in 1951. Since 1959, Flessner KG has also appeared in German retail under the brand name IBU . The takeover made potato chips part of the Bahlsen range for the first time.

In 1968 in Neunburg vorm Wald a highly modern chip factory was put into operation, and in 1972 another was opened in Hankensbüttel . Right from the start, the company worked at its production sites in Lower Saxony and Upper Palatinate in Bavaria in controlled contract cultivation with local farmers and their producer groups.

In 1974/75 Werner Bahlsen's two sons, Werner M. Bahlsen and Lorenz Bahlsen, took over the company. In 1999 the company split into Bahlsen KG in Hanover and the Lorenz Bahlsen Snack Group in Neu-Isenburg; in the latter, Lorenz Bahlsen became the partner. In 2001 the Bahlsen Picanterie division was renamed Lorenz Snack-World .

In 2006 the company changed its logo: Although it was still handwritten, it no longer had the traditional Bahlsen script. In addition, the small globe with the LSW initials was dispensed with. The background color changed from green-red to red-green (Bahlsen formerly blue).

In 2009, the company said it had around 3,000 employees and a turnover of around 450 million euros. There are seven production sites in Europe. Among the main brands of the company include Crunchips , NicNac's , Saltletts (until 2003 Salzletten ), peanut curls , snack hits , Naturals , crisps , Pomsticks , World Selection (nuts), Tacitos , party clubs and Peppies .

In 2019, in an online survey by the Hamburg consumer center, the crisps were chosen as the sham package of 2018 . The reason was the reduction of the content from 170 to 100 grams with the same price and a comparable size packaging. With an additional serving bowl made of plastic and freshness foil, the amount of waste has been increased. Consumers would get “fewer chips, but more rubbish for their money in relation to the content”.
