Lorenz Helmschmied

Lorenz Helmschmied (* between 1450 and 1455 in Augsburg ; † 1515 in Augsburg) was an important armorer and armor maker.

His ancestors were weapons and helmet smiths. He himself can be traced for the first time in 1469 and worked for Kaiser Friedrich III. and his son Maximilian I , who appointed him Hofplattner in 1491. Three piercing witnesses in the Viennese weapons collection and a harness for horse and rider in the museum in Bern as well as armor for Archduke Sigismund and Maximilian I are certified by his master’s mark , a piercing helmet with a cross zimir .

Lorenz Helmschmied was the father of Kolman Helmschmied and grandfather of Desiderius Kolman Helmschmied .
