Lorenz Leiboldt

Lorenz Leiboldt d. Ä. (* around 1530; † September 12, 1597 in Lichtenstadt ) was a Bohemian mayor, councilor and chronicler of Lichtenstadt.

Life

His unnamed father moved from Tüppelsgrün to Lichtenstadt on Epiphany in 1552 , where he bought Gilbhard's house. He "had a growth in his body and died after a drink from a people cheat Friday after Martini 1563". Leiboldt, who learned the trade of white tanner, started his apprenticeship in Kaaden in 1551 and worked in Gerbergasse in Freiberg, Saxony, in 1553 . He taught himself to read and write. In his hometown he was mayor for 22 years and a councilor for 34 years. It is thanks to him that he started a chronicle of Lichtenstadt, which he began at a young age and kept until his death in 1597. In it he reported u. a. of important events in the city such as storms, accidents, acts of violence, fires and incidents of war. The chronicle was continued by his son Andreas Leiboldt .
