Lorenz Summa
Johann Georg Lorenz Summa (born May 11, 1833 - July 19, 1889 ) was a German entrepreneur and founder of the Lorenz Summa company .
Lorenz Summa was the son of the weaver Johann Gottfried Summa and had seven siblings. His marriage to Margarete, née Fischer, had six children. He was the founder of a family business that lasted for four generations until 1984. The operation began in 1856 in Schwarzenbach an der Saale with the dyeing of yarn from cotton . He first worked with his wife and in 1858 hired six assistants. There was also a printing shop for cotton yarn and the processing of sheep's wool . In the age of the industrial revolution , in addition to an increase in the workforce, various technical achievements such as the import of roller printing machines from England and the use of a steam boiler ensured the company's success. After Lorenz Summa's death in 1889, the company was taken over by his six children, who also established a plant in Oberkotzau in 1890 . Lorenz Summa was buried in the Schwarzenbach an der Saale cemetery. Streets in Schwarzenbach and Oberkotzau are named after him.
