Lorettokapelle (Erbendorf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lorettokapelle is a small chapel in Erbendorf in the northern Upper Palatinate . It was built in the 19th century; it is now a listed building. It is located west of the parish church of the Assumption in the center of Erbendorf.

History and description

In the 14th century, a chapel "To our dear lady" was mentioned at the place where the Loretto Chapel is today, but in 1605 it no longer existed. In 1739 the pastor from Erbendorf, Johann Michael Pfreumbter, bought the property and built a house with a chapel from 1745 to 1750. In the two city fires in 1771 and 1796, the chapel and the entire city were destroyed and had to be rebuilt.

The current benefit building and the house chapel date from 1797. The chapel and the adjoining house have existed in their current form since 1857, when the chapel with the chancel and the entrance facade was added.

The winged altar shows an annunciation scene when the wings are closed and the enthroned Madonna and Child as the main motif when the wings are open, St. Wolfgang (left) and St. Dionysius (right) can be seen on the two side wings. Above the Madonna, two angels hold a replica of the house in which the Virgin Mary is said to have lived. Under the altar table there are relics of the holy martyr Faustinus of Rome .
