Los Gatos ( Spanish for the cats ) were an Argentine band from Rosario who were among the pioneers of rock music in this South American country. Together with Almendra and Manal, they were among the first bands of the style to compose their own songs and not just replay Anglo-American titles.
history
The band began in the early 1960s as a cover band under the name Los Gatos Salvajes . From the middle of the decade they got in touch with the rock scene in Buenos Aires and began to compose their first songs. In 1967 they were renamed Los Gatos . Her title La Balsa , of which more than 200,000 units have been sold, was one of the earliest Argentinian rock hits. The song was a collaboration between the band and the rock singer Tanguito from Buenos Aires .
The singer Litto Nebbia was considered the band leader . As early as 1969, however, he turned away from the band and founded a successful solo project. The band members used the inactive time to travel to the USA to pick up musical influences. At the end of 1969 a short reunion took place, which resulted in two albums and two singles. As a result, the band broke up only three years after their formation in 1970.
In 2007 the founding members decided to reunite for the 40th anniversary and gave concerts in Rosario and Buenos Aires.
