Lothar Heinecke (translator)
Lothar Heinecke (born August 11, 1925 ; died 1964 ) was a German translator and editor of science fiction .
Heinecke came into contact with contemporary Anglo-Saxon science fiction when he worked as an interpreter for the American occupation forces after the end of World War II. Shortly thereafter, he worked for Moewig Verlag , where he translated numerous English-language science fiction titles, including classics such as Arthur C. Clarke's Islands in Space and John Wyndham's Colony in the Sea? . Many of his translations appeared in the series of novels published by Moewig Verlag and were shortened to match the size of the booklet.
Heinecke was also the publisher of the second German science fiction magazine Galaxis Science Fiction - Stories from the World of Tomorrow , a German version of the American SF magazine Galaxy , in whose 15 issues from 1958 to 1959 many classic stories from English science fiction in first German translation published.
In 1964, Heinecke died in a car accident at the age of only 38. He was buried on March 7th.
