Athletic career

In the fall of 1955, a transition round was held in all divisions of GDR football, which served to change the schedule to the calendar year. In the 13 rounds of the second-class GDR league , the then almost 19-year-old goalkeeper Lothar Richter appeared for the first time in the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Zeitz with four appearances in the higher-class league operations. In the GDR league season of 1956, which was held for the first time in a calendar year rhythm, Richter had already received eleven nominations in the 26 point games played. In the seasons 1957 (22 missions) and 1958 (20) Richter was already the goalkeeper of BSG Chemie. In 1958 he was promoted to the GDR league. There Richter was again designated as the first goalkeeper for the 1959 season and initially played five league games. On his fifth assignment, he injured himself so badly that he could only be called up twice as a substitute in the first half of the season. Then Lothar Richter ended his career in top football at the age of 24. From 1955 to 1959 he had come in the five seasons with 117 point games on 64 missions.
