The Lotus 22 was a Formula Junior racing car , built in 1962 by the British motorsport team Lotus .

The Lotus 22 was presented at the London Motor Racing Show in 1962. The London Motor Show was an important event for motorsport in the 1960s and the Lotus team management used the event to advertise new Lotus racing car models for the financially strong privateers.

The new car, 77 pieces were built, was a further development of the Lotus 20 , which was presented in London a year earlier . As in the previous model, a Cosworth motor served as the drive . Only Gerhard Mitter , who replaced his Lotus 20 with a 22, installed a DKW engine like in his 20s .

Again Lotus dominated the British championship. Peter Arundell started 25 races, finished 22 and won 18 of them. The South African Brausch Niemann drove a 22 with a bored Cosworth engine in the South African championship in the winter of 1963/1964 as a Formula 1 car .
