The Lough Allen ( Irish Loch Aillionn ) is a lake in the Republic of Ireland , who in the course of Shannon is.
It is next to the Lough Derg and Lough Ree one of the three at the same time and the northernmost of the great lakes, which forms the Shannon on its way through Ireland and feeds. Lough Allen is centrally located in the northern part of the "Green Island" . Most of the area of the lake belongs to County Leitrim , a small part is in County Roscommon . The lake lies south of the source of the Shannon and runs in a north-south direction. Road R280 runs to the west of the lake, while Lough Allen is accessible via the R207 to the east. North of the lake is the R200.
