Markus Karl (born February 14, 1986 in Vilsbiburg ) is a German football player .
Career
Karl started playing football in the youth team of TSV Vilsbiburg at the age of five and moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth in 2003 , where he played a short stint in the 2nd Bundesliga in 2004/05. In the summer of 2005 he moved on to Hamburger SV , where he signed a contract that ran until 2008. For the Hanseatic League he played four times in the UI Cup and in the regional league team. In the Bundesliga he played 13 minutes in three games in the 2005/06 season and nine minutes in two games in the first half of the 2006/07 season.
Karl went back to SpVgg Greuther Fürth during the winter break in 2006/07. During the winter break of the 2007/08 season he was loaned to the regional division FC Ingolstadt for six months . There he played the entire second half of the season and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. He was taken over by FC Ingolstadt and completed a total of 15 regional league, 27 third division and 54 second division games there by 2011.
From the 2011/12 season, Karl played for 1. FC Union Berlin . There he received a contract that ran until 2013. In his debut season for Berlin, he played 33 of the possible 34 season games.
At the end of January 2013, Karl moved to league competitor 1. FC Kaiserslautern , with whom he signed a contract that ran until the end of June 2016. He made his debut on the 20th matchday in a 1-0 away win against TSV 1860 Munich in the starting line-up. He scored his first goal for Lautrer on February 8, 2013 in a 3-0 home win against Dynamo Dresden , it was the goal to make it 1-0.
At the end of the 2015/16 season, his contract with 1. FC Kaiserslautern was not extended. Karl then signed a two-year contract with SV Sandhausen , which was optionally extended to 2019.
For DFB selections he was used twice in the U-18 and once in the U-19 .
