Louis Étienne de Thouvenin
Louis Étienne de Thouvenin (born November 12, 1791 in Moyenvic , Département Meurthe ; † 1882 ) was a French officer and weapons designer.
Life
Thouvenin became an artillery lieutenant in the French army in 1811, fought with distinction in the campaigns of the coalition wars from 1813 to 1815, then in Spain in 1823 , in Greece in 1828 , retired in 1853 as Général de brigade and died in 1882.
In 1840 he proposed an improvement to the rifle by adding a pin in the tail screw , and in 1844 he designed a pin rifle with a long bullet , which was adopted in 1846 as a hunter's weapon in almost all armies, also as a stalking and target rifle , and only through the Minie - and the needle gun was displaced.
