biography

First financial clerk at Jacques Necker and Charles Alexandre de Calonne , he became director of contributions at Claude Antoine de Valdec de Lessart . Louis XVI of France appointed him Minister of Public Finance on May 29, 1791. He organized the new financial administration.

Very closely connected with the king, in the vicinity of the ruling Feuillants , he left the ministry with them on March 29, 1792 , to give way to the Girondins , who received the mandate from the king to form a new cabinet. On August 15, 1792, he was convicted and managed to go into hiding and subsequently refused any official activity, despite the fact that he was cleared for public office by the Council of Five Hundred .
