Louis Hendrik Potgieter

Louis Hendrik Potgieter (also known as Patrick Bailey ; born April 4, 1951 in Pretoria , South Africa ; † November 12, 1994 in Port Elizabeth , South Africa) was a South African singer and member of the pop group Dschinghis Khan .

Life

Potgieter studied ballet and graphic arts in Johannesburg . In the early 1970s he came to the Ulm Theater as a solo dancer . In 1975 he got an engagement at the Gärtnerplatztheater . Three years later he played a supporting role in the 51st episode "Ute and Manuela" of the crime series Derrick . In 1979 the music producer Ralph Siegel became aware of him. For the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 Siegel put together the group Dschinghis Khan . After the group disbanded years later, Potgieter went back to South Africa and became a hotel manager. He died in 1994 of complications from an AIDS disease .
