Louis room
Louis Zimmer (born September 8, 1888 in Lier , Belgium ; † December 12, 1970 there ; also Ludwig Zimmer ) was a Belgian watchmaker.
Act
Zimmer is the builder and donor of the monumental anniversary clock (1930) and the astronomical studio (1932) in the Zimmer tower named after him in Lier . This tower houses the massive tower clock that moves the external astronomical displays, the automatons and the nine departments and 51 illustrations of the astronomical-didactic studio. The mechanics convey the cosmic relationships in a clear way.
Zimmer built another highly complex mechanical wonder clock that moves 93 dials and 14 automata. It was presented at the World Exhibition in New York in 1939 and is now installed in an outbuilding of the Zimmer tower complex in Lier.
Ludwig Zimmer was made the first honorary citizen on June 13, 1970, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Zimmer Tower, for his services to the city of Lier.
The asteroid (3064) room was named after him.
