The Louisiana State Penitentiary (also known as "The Farm" or "Angola") is a prison in the US state of Louisiana . With more than 5,000 inmates and 1,800 employees, it is the largest maximum security prison in the United States.

The detention center is located on 73 km² in West Feliciana Parish near the Mississippi border and is surrounded on three sides by the Mississippi River . The prison is located on the site of a former slave plantation. The plantation was named Angola after the homeland of the slaves .

Various films such as Dead Man Walking or Monster's Ball were partly shot here. For the documentary film The Farm: Angola, USA , six prisoners were followed by cameras. In 1999 the short documentary The Wildest Show in the South: The Angola Prison Rodeo was released about the rodeo taking place in the prison.
