Lovat Castle is a defunct lowland castle near the villages of Kirkhill and Beauly in the Scottish administrative division of Highland . The castle stood on the south bank of the River Beauly .
history
In the 11th or 12th century, the Bisset clan built a castle called Beauly Castle on this site . Through the marriage of Simon Fraser († 1306) with the Bisset heiress in the 13th century, the castle fell to the Fraser clan . It was later renamed "Lovat Castle".
In 1671 Lovat Castle was demolished and the stones were used as building material for other buildings. Nothing is left of the castle. Wester Lovat's farm buildings now stand on the site .
