Luís Ismael is a Portuguese actor and film director .

Life

In 2001 he shot the film Balas & Bolinhos (German: "Balls and Croquettes") together with some friends , a comedy about four unsuccessful petty criminals. Produced with a budget of only € 1,500 and outside the structures of Portuguese film , it advanced to become a cult film , with overdrawn characters and an emphatic local reference to the small towns in the greater Porto area . Ishmael played the head of the gang here.

His successor Balas & Bolinhos - O Regresso ("Balas & Bolinhos - The Return") was characterized by a more consistent script and a larger production, but essentially retained its characteristics. The characters and their actors remained the same, while the story told of the return of the gang leader from Libya and a subsequent treasure hunt by the four. The film was a box-office success (among the most successful Portuguese films since 2004) and grossed over 230,000 euros at production costs of around 150,000 euros. Both films were subsequently released as DVD editions. The film won an award for its screenplay at the Kodai Film Fire film festival in India .

In September 2012, Balas & Bolinhos - O Último Capítulo (“Balas & Bolinhos - The Last Chapter”), the last part of the trilogy, was released in cinemas. This time too, the script, direction, production and editing came from Luís Ismael, who also played his role as the head of the gang. All three films are now available on DVD.
