history

The ancestors of Lucian Newhall (1824–1898), the builder of the house, were among the first settlers to settle in Lynn. Both his father and grandfather worked as shoe manufacturers. Lucian Newhall founded his own shoe factory in 1847, establishing what is now the city's central business district with other entrepreneurs. From a trip to England he brought construction plans with him, according to which he built Lucian Newhall House in 1866 as his residence in the Diamond District, an elite district of Lynn.

Lucian Newhall House was built in the style of the Second Empire , which was common in Europe at the time . Due to its location and its preserved original architecture, Lucian Newhall House is an eye-catcher in the Diamond District and the entire city of Lynn.
